What This Course Does Not Cover

This Course does not teach CPR, ECG rhythm identification, pharmacology, or algorithms.

If you do not review CPR and if you do not learn and understand the ECG and pharmacology information, it is unlikely that you can successfully complete this Course.

You will not be taught how to read or interpret ECG rhythm strips in the course, nor will you be taught details about pharmacology. You must know this in advance.

It is essential that you bring your ACLS Course Guide to class; you will need it during each lesson in the course. You may refer to the Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care for Healthcare Providers (optional), and you may bring it to the course to use as a reference during some of the stations in the course.

Space Coast Heart Savers offers weekly ACLS for Healthcare Providers CPR training courses in Melbourne, Florida (Brevard County), Tampa Bay and Vero Beach, Florida (Indian River County). This CPR class is for people in the medical field (ie.. physicians, nurses, dentists, dental assistants, paramedics, EMT’s, respiratory or physical therapists, physicians assistants, medical or nursing students, dialysis staff, or any other healthcare related field).

ACLS focuses on the importance of quality CPR and advanced life support for patient survival. The culmination of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation is essential during the course.

Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts:

  • Proficiency in basic life support care
  • Recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions
  • Managing cardiac arrest
  • Identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes
  • Recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care
  • ACLS algorithms
  • Effective resuscitation team dynamics

All participants must have a current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification to participate in this course.
